Basketball is a Brotherhood.
NBA.com and adidas have teamed up to bring you the thoughts from several players around the NBA on how basketball and their brotherhoods have played a part in their lives. Check out our interviews and videos showing just how Basketball is a Brotherhood!
Q: Who were your mentors growing up and who would you consider to be in your Brotherhood?
A: Definitely both of my parents because of the things they installed in me as far as hard work and dedication and going down the right path in life. Growing up, there have been a lot of people influencing me, definitely Coach (Dean) Smith from North Carolina. He has been a big part of my life. Adidas has been a great brand and I've been with them ever since I made it to the NBA. I've been blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by a great group of people who have influenced me into the right direction.
Q: Are there any other coaches besides Coach Smith you stay in touch with?
A: Other than Coach Smith, one coach I keep in touch with is Eric Musselman. We were together in Golden State and every time we see each other, we spend some time talking. He checks up on me every once in a while to make sure I'm doing well. Another coach is P.J. Carlesimo, but he's in Seattle now so it's tough to get an opportunity to talk as much. My other coaches and I remain friends.
Q: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
A: The most important thing is to get everybody healthy and become the team that I think we can be; to be a championship caliber team, one that can contend and make it possible to get to the finals. It's been unfortunate with some of the injuries, but we should be ok. We want the team to come together and get healthy and gel as we get towards the playoffs.
Q: What is your favorite part of All-Star Weekend?
A: The game. Having an opportunity to participate in the game and go down in history to be a part of this weekend is definitely special. Just being here with my family and friends is great. My kids are here and having a good time. Family is what it's all about.
Q: Who were your mentors growing up and who would you consider to be in your Brotherhood?
A: Off the court would definitely be my parents. They taught me the most valuable lessons that I’ve learned in my life. My grandparents and my parents are very special to me.
Q: How have the people in your Brotherhood shaped your life and made you the man you are today?
A: Basketball is a lot like life. It's not always fair and things don’t always fall like you want them to but you get out of it what you put into it. If you put a lot of work in and do what you have to and do it the right way you should get results most of the time. You always have to keep plugging away.
Q:What are your goals for the rest of the season?
A: The goal is to win a championship. That's what I really want.
Q: What is your favorite part of All-Star Weekend?
A: all of the festivities and getting the chance to go to them with my family - this weekend is just a really good time and I always enjoy it.
Q: Who were your mentors growing up and who would you consider to be in your Brotherhood?
A: My brother-in-law taught me how to play so he's definitely my basketball mentor. My father and my sisters were my mentors in life. They're my family as they looked out for me and put me on the right track.
Q: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
A: No personal goals - the only goal I have is to stay healthy. Our team goals are to finish strong. We want to be healthy and to get everybody on the court and get our entire team playing again together.
Q: What is your favorite part of All-Star Weekend?
A: The game.
